NRL Expert Tips Round 1 2026

NRL Round 1

MrG's Preview Thoughts!

Storm v Eels

Not straightforward, 7 changes to storm line up, but they are normally different gravy when at home and as we know, they’ve been winning Round 1 games under Bellamy since he was in short socks. (won 23 consecutive Round 1 matches) and have won the last 6 v Eels. Nice watch on the visitors, the 7, 6 and 1 looks strong, they need points and importantly they need 80 mins of quality D. Eels with the plus looks the right side, Storm at home hard to not be with straight up. Storm

Warriors v Roosters

3 key outs for Warriors, but they’ve had weeks to prep and play well at home, especially against this opponent. Roosters without Robson, but a strong lineup. Underdogs, in particular home underdogs, do well early weeks/rounds (2 from 2 last Sunday), Wahs with plus looks inviting, have won 4 of their last 5 season openers at home, while the Roosters have lost 7 of their last 9 Round 1 games. Roosters just squeak home? Warriors

Broncos v Panthers

Cracking game, Panthers have won 9 of the last 11 head to head and 6 of the last 7 in Brisbane. Broncos bring points but also concede.. Looks tough and tight early, think the Broncos strike and big home ground crowd gets them home late

Sharks v Titans

Sharks look settled, know their drill, play well at home and make a habit of bashing up lower table based teams when expected. Titans' new coach and numerous new players in the lineup, Campbell key out, away record and D has not been a past strength, big watch here. Tits have looks very positive and on the same page in their trials, now for the 2pt test.. Sharks

Eagles v Raiders

The green guys look the forgotten side again? Looks a great match up here and Stuart does enjoy an excellent long term rd1 record; also won 2 last 3 at Brookie. Thought the game result looked through the middle and the physical advantage the Raiders bring, especially on rotation and bench matchups. Expect Brookvale and big crowd support will help the home side but likely need standout roles from Turbo and Brooks to nail this. Raiders

Dolphins v Rabbits

Another cracka! Phins big boys in the middle are here! And collectively, they play well in Brisbane. Looks a cracking big body match up. Looks like there's a lot to like about the Rabbits, starting with so many key and quality ins. Hard to split, Dolphins at home and big men's strength might set the platform. Dolphins

NRL Expert Tips  – Reading The Play

Gerard Condon and Gerard Barton combine to present our NRL tips content.

MrG

Having coached at a senior level for 16 years, including 3 years on the coaching staff of an NRL club, Gerard Condon is a long-term avid student of the game. He’s coached sides to win titles at a senior level, run the football arm of a successful district club, managed professional players and worked in various development roles, so it’s fair to say the game of Rugby League is certainly in his blood and supports an experienced and unique offering.

Mr G’s NRL previews and betting tips combine this knowledge and ‘read’ of the current weekly form with a statistical and betting analysis to provide his followers with a unique and successful approach. He spends hours each week watching and reviewing each and every game, assessing the strengths and weaknesses of the form to then weigh against that of the betting markets. His previews and betting tips have been published on the internet via two sports forums for 7 years prior to his public offering through Reading The Play.

MrGB

Gerard Barton started his rugby league story when playing at the age of six, running around in the bush for the Forbes Magpies before eventually landing at Dubbo CYMS. The highlight? Captaining the Dubbo CYMS Under 18s to a premiership – with a young bloke named Andrew Ryan watching on from the bench.

Like any mad Eels supporter, he went from screaming at the TV to putting his money where his mouth was. What began as casual NRL punting slowly evolved into something much deeper – a full-blown obsession with data analysis. A love for the game then grew into a love for what the play and stats can and can't tell you about the outcome. But here's what matters: GB is a footy headfirst, and self-taught maths and data nerd second. You've got to know the game before you crunch the numbers. Stats don't play football – blokes do. Understanding that distinction is everything.

These days, GB is deep into modelling the key performance areas that actually influence outcomes. Pre-game team forecasts, AI-assisted analysis, the works. It's about finding the edge where footy knowledge meets data science.
